Project Impact STEM Academy uses project-based learning to achieve mastery of competencies focused on cognitive skills. Our cognitive skills are scored on a universal rubric that allows students to revisit and grow on these skills, form one project to the next. In the early grades, use of computer aided instruction is de-emphasized, allowing the students to build strong fine motor skills. As students enter the upper elementary grades they begin working within our blended learning environment, providing new opportunities to further individualize student instruction.

In the National Action Plan for addressing the critical needs of the United States in STEM education the
National Science Foundation reports, “In the 21 st century, scientific and technological innovations have
become increasingly important as we face the benefits and challenges of both globalization and a
knowledge-based economy. To succeed in this new information-based and highly technological society,
students need to develop their capabilities in STEM to levels much beyond what was considered
acceptable in the past” (2007). At Project Impact STEM Academy our classes are deeply embedded in
STEM focused projects because of our belief that STEM is the connector that drives innovation.

At Pi STEM, our teachers embody the same beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that we value most:

PiSA faculty believe that
Every student has the right to learn.
All students are unique and may learn in different ways.
Teachers are leaders and coaches in the classroom and not the sole facilitator of knowledge.
The faculty at PiSA
Are learners themselves who continue to grow every day.
Are positive individuals who love to see others try new things and succeed.
Are hard-working and persistent in their goals.
Are collaborators who enjoy working as a team and are all hands on deck to help student learn and grow.
PiSA faculty conduct themselves
With warmth and empathy to help create a safe learning environment.
With humor and enthusiasm as they see the joy in working with their community.
With a positive attitude that enables them to find new and constructive ways to grow as a teacher and alearner.

What is it Like Working at Pi STEM?

Even though Pi STEM's students and teachers are designing this school, we still take inspiration from other leaders in educational change.  The videos below have helped shaped our vision of what Pi STEM will become.
