Dara Young
5th Science, 8th Math, HS Chemistry
dyoung@pistem.org

Mrs. Young grew up in Fresno, California, but moved to Idaho in 2010 with her family. Her passion for math and science grew in her junior high and high school years. Her teachers at her new school fostered her passion for math and science which led her to pursue STEM as a career. Mrs. Young graduated from Boise State University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with an emphasis in biochemistry. During her undergraduate research, she worked as a research assistant for Dr. Lee studying functional gold nanomaterials via DNA nanotechnology, biosensing utilizing DNA catalytic networks, and DNA-entropy driven assembly of quantum coherent dye systems to function as optical sensors. During this time, Mrs. Young’s research focus was determining if the catalytic network geometry hindered attachment of gold nanoparticles, therefore their optical and biosensing abilities.
Upon graduating from Boise State University, Mrs. Young was offered a position as a Chemistry Laboratory Instructor due to her experience working in the chemistry department. During this time, she also privately tutored college students in calculus, algebra, and chemistry. After her time as lab instructor, she was offered a position as an elementary teacher. This opportunity cultivated her adaptability and creativity in teaching style. Her goal as an educator is to grow comprehension, spark curiosity, encourage independence, and foster collaborative learning.
Mrs. Young and her husband, Zachary, have two children: Luka (6) and Liam (2). The family spends much of their time outdoors hiking, camping, swimming in the river, and participating in activities with friends and family.
Mrs. Young is excited to start this new adventure with Project Impact STEM Academy. She is  passionate about STEM education and eager to inspire the pursuit of knowledge so students can build a solid foundation for their future academic pursuits.

Cathy Hatch
HS/MS Science, AG Science, & MS History
[email protected]

Mrs. Hatch graduated from Brigham Young University Idaho with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health Education and Health Sciences in 2018. While in this program, she and her research team were awarded 1st place in the BYU-I spring research conference for their work on exercise and supplement use. In 2023, she completed a Masters degree in Secondary Science Education for Biology. She is currently working to finish a second Masters degree in Chemistry Education which she anticipates completing in 2025.

Mrs. Hatch grew up in Shelley, Idaho; a proud Russet! She and her husband, Jason, are the parents of three daughters and three sons, and have happily added three sons in law, two daughters in law, and three (soon four) delightful grandchildren. Work assignments for Mr. Hatch has taken their family to Utah, suburban Chicago, and southwest Michigan. Mrs. Hatch has had the opportunity to work in schools in all of these areas. Before obtaining her teaching certification she worked as a student intervention specialist and a science teaching assistant.  Upon finishing her Bachelor’s degree, Mrs. Hatch anticipated applying for PA school, but when it came time to apply it didn’t feel like the right path. She had loved teaching and watching the light of understanding in students’ eyes, so she decided to change directions and complete her teaching certification in Biology. She has been so happy with this decision and knows it was the right one.

Mrs. Hatch and her family (some of them) have lived in St. Joseph, Michigan for the past three years where she taught Biology, Integrated Science, and Chemistry. Her favorite moments in teaching have been watching as students have taken what they have learned and used it to solve a problem or answer an important question. She loves the creative and bright minds of her science students and guiding them as they learn. Mrs. Hatch and her family are moving back home to Idaho and she is so excited to join the Project Impact STEM Academy team!
